The Truth About Tobacco: Why Nicotine Addiction is Ruining What Loose Tobacco Were Meant to Be
Tobacco has a long history, deeply rooted in tradition and culture, yet today it’s often lumped together with the dangers of nicotine addiction. But if we look back, the use of loose, high-quality tobacco—whether in cigars or in its natural form—was never about addiction or mindless habit. It was about something deeper. And I want to unpack that distinction today.
Why You Should Care
Have you ever wondered why cigarettes and vapes lead to such strong addiction, while others can enjoy high-quality loose tobacco or cigars in a mindful, controlled way? How did something sacred, used for centuries by Indigenous cultures for spiritual and medicinal purposes, become vilified in modern times?
Understanding the difference between nicotine and pure, high-quality tobacco can help reshape our relationship with these substances. Because mindset is everything. If your intention is to connect with the spirit of the tobacco, your experience will be significantly different than if you're using it to numb yourself or calm down. Trust me, I’ve been there—I’m no angel, and that was years ago! But now I understand how much power intention holds over our experiences.
What You Need to Know
First, let’s clear something up: nicotine is a naturally occurring compound found in tobacco. It’s a stimulant, which speeds up your nervous system and triggers dopamine release—the chemical that makes you feel good, focused, or even relaxed. This is what makes nicotine addictive, especially when consumed in highly processed forms like cigarettes and vapes.
On the other hand, tobacco—specifically loose, high-quality tobacco or cigars—is something different altogether. For centuries, Indigenous peoples used tobacco in ceremonies, rituals, and healing practices. The use of tobacco was always intentional, and it wasn’t about getting addicted. It was about connecting to something bigger—whether that was spiritual grounding, a sense of community, or simply savoring a mindful moment.
Loose high-quality tobacco and cigars are made from whole tobacco leaves, without all the additives and chemicals found in cigarettes. When used in moderation and with the right intention, they offer a completely different experience than the nicotine-heavy, chemically enhanced products we see today.
How It Works
Here’s where things differ between modern nicotine use and traditional tobacco use. Cigarettes and vapes are designed for fast nicotine delivery. That quick hit of dopamine rushes into your system, which feels good at first, but eventually leads to dependency. It's an engineered trap that keeps you coming back.
But when it comes to loose tobacco or a fine cigar, the process is much slower and more deliberate. You’re not inhaling deeply or trying to get a fast fix. Instead, you’re savoring the taste, the aroma, and the ritual of it. This slower release of nicotine doesn’t trigger the same cravings or dependency. It’s about experiencing the essence of the tobacco itself, not the chemical rush.
Traditional tobacco use in Indigenous cultures was never about addiction. It was a way to ground oneself, a tool for prayer, and a means to connect to the earth and spirit. In many ways, enjoying a well-made cigar or high-quality loose tobacco today brings you back to that mindset. It’s about mindfulness and ritual—not addiction.
What If We Changed Our Approach?
What if we could reframe how we think about tobacco? Instead of associating it with addiction, poor health, and dependency, what if we focused on the mindful use of high-quality tobacco? Loose tobacco and cigars offer a way to experience this plant as it was originally intended—without the rush for a nicotine fix, and with respect for its traditional uses.
When you approach it with intention and mindfulness, tobacco can become a tool for connection, not addiction. Just like anything in life, your mindset shapes your experience. If your goal is to connect with the sacred spirit of tobacco, to savor it slowly and respectfully, your experience will be completely different than if you’re using it to calm your nerves after a stressful day.
I've been there, too, using tobacco for the wrong reasons in the past. But once I understood how much intention matters, everything changed. Now, I approach loose tobacco and cigars with mindfulness, knowing that the experience is about respect—not dependence.
Conclusion
The next time you light up a cigar or enjoy loose, high-quality tobacco, remember: it’s all about how you approach it. Are you using it to numb out or as part of a mindful ritual? There’s a big difference.
By understanding the true nature of nicotine and tobacco, we can reclaim the ancient wisdom around this sacred plant and use it for what it was always meant to be—an intentional, mindful experience. Let’s move away from addiction-driven habits and return to respecting the tradition and quality of real tobacco.
Disclaimer
I am not a doctor, and I don’t advocate for anyone to start smoking loose tobacco or cigars. I’m simply making a case for mindful plant consumption and the importance of having a sacred intention in anything and everything we do. Your mindset shapes your experience—whether it’s tobacco, food, or any other ritual in your life.
Closing Thoughts
Thanks for reading! I hope this article gave you a new perspective on the difference between nicotine addiction and the mindful use of loose tobacco or cigars. Remember, mindset and intention are everything. It’s time to reclaim what tobacco was meant to be.

Navigating Menopause: Insights from Expert Laura Lamb
Welcome to another enlightening episode of the Uncensored Journey Podcast! This week, Cyndee and I sit down with Laura Lamb, a menopause practitioner who has dedicated her career to helping women navigate the often turbulent journey through menopause. With a wealth of knowledge and a deep commitment to women's health, Laura shares invaluable insights on managing menopause, debunking myths, and taking control of one's hormonal health.
A Transformative Career Shift
Laura Lamb's journey into menopause coaching began with a significant career shift. Previously an investment risk analyst on a trading floor, Laura felt a profound lack of purpose in her work. Driven by her lifelong passion for health and fitness, she retrained as a nutritionist and started coaching women on the side. Her path took a decisive turn when she attended a menopausal support group and realized the profound need for better education and support for menopausal women. This experience fueled her passion to create a comprehensive, evidence-based program to support women through menopause and beyond.
Understanding Menopause
In simple terms, menopause marks the end of a woman's reproductive cycle. It is officially declared after 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period. However, the journey to menopause—known as perimenopause—can begin up to 10-15 years before the final menstrual period. This phase is characterized by fluctuating hormone levels, leading to various symptoms such as hot flashes, mood swings, brain fog, and more. Postmenopause, the stage following menopause, lasts for the remainder of a woman's life.
The Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) Debate
One of the most discussed treatments for menopause symptoms is Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). Laura addresses the confusion and fear surrounding HRT, largely stemming from a now-disproven study in 2002 that linked HRT to breast cancer. Modern research has shown that the benefits of HRT often outweigh the risks, particularly when administered at the lowest effective dose. HRT comes in various forms, including oral pills, patches, gels, and localized treatments, allowing for tailored approaches based on individual needs and health profiles.
Natural Alternatives and Lifestyle Adjustments
For women who prefer natural approaches or cannot take HRT due to health conditions, Laura emphasizes the importance of lifestyle changes and nutrition. An anti-inflammatory diet rich in whole foods, lean proteins, healthy fats, and fiber can significantly alleviate menopause symptoms. Regular pelvic floor exercises, hydration, and stress management are also crucial for maintaining overall health and well-being during menopause.
Tackling Myths and Misconceptions
Laura debunks several common myths about menopause, including the notion that there is a definitive age or specific symptoms that mark its onset. She highlights the variability in women's experiences and the importance of personalized approaches to managing symptoms. Additionally, she addresses misconceptions about the necessity of supplements, emphasizing that a balanced diet can provide most essential nutrients, with the exception of vitamin D, which often needs to be supplemented.
Advocating for Women's Health
One of the most pressing issues Laura discusses is the gap in education and support for menopausal women. Many healthcare providers lack comprehensive training in menopause, leading to frequent misdiagnoses and dismissals. Laura urges women to advocate for their health, seek out reputable sources of information, and join supportive communities to navigate this life stage effectively.
Joining the Menopausal Lab
To bridge the gap between scientific research and accessible information, Laura has created the Menopausal Lab—a free resource providing comprehensive education on menopause. This platform offers step-by-step guides, treatment options, and expert advice to empower women to take control of their health.

Welcome to another enlightening episode of the Uncensored Journey podcast, where Cyndee and I delve into transformative healing modalities and alternative approaches to self-improvement. In this episode, we are joined by Rick Loek, also known as the Amazing Rick, who brings a wealth of knowledge in neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), mental and emotional release, and hypnosis. Rick shares his journey from software engineering to becoming a master practitioner and trainer in NLP, offering profound insights into how these techniques can foster personal growth and transformation.
The Power of NLP Presuppositions
Rick begins by discussing the core principles of NLP, known as presuppositions. These fundamental beliefs help individuals view life through new lenses, granting grace and understanding to others. One of Rick’s favorite presuppositions is "the map is not the territory," which illustrates how our perceptions are not the reality itself but representations that can often mislead us. By grasping this concept, people can better understand how others generalize, delete, and distort information, enhancing interpersonal communication and empathy.
Explaining NLP to a Child
Rick uses a charming analogy to explain NLP to a five-year-old. He likens it to communicating with a friend in a way that ensures mutual respect and understanding, even when disagreements arise. This simple yet effective explanation highlights how NLP techniques can improve everyday interactions, making them more harmonious and productive.
Rick’s Journey into NLP
Rick recounts his transition from software engineering to NLP, sparked by a serendipitous encounter with Christopher Howard’s training materials. His journey was further enriched by participating in a Toastmasters club, where he honed his skills and deepened his understanding of NLP. This journey exemplifies how NLP can be a powerful tool for personal and professional development.
The Practical Applications of NLP
Rick emphasizes the practical applications of NLP in daily life, particularly in communication. He shares anecdotes about how techniques like mental and emotional release can alleviate anxiety and transform negative emotions. For example, he helped a client in Wilmington, Delaware, release deep-seated anger, resulting in a profound shift in her emotional state.
Using NLP to Combat Anxiety
Rick explains how NLP can be used to address anxiety by visualizing successful outcomes. This technique helps individuals reframe their fears and focus on positive possibilities. By envisioning a successful scenario and projecting themselves into the future, people can reduce their anxiety and approach challenges with greater confidence.
Anchoring Positive States
One of Rick’s favorite NLP techniques is anchoring, which involves associating a physical action with a positive emotional state. For instance, gently squeezing an ear while recalling a peaceful moment can help recreate that feeling during stressful situations. This simple yet powerful technique can be applied in various contexts, enhancing overall well-being.
Expanding NLP Training
Rick is passionate about expanding NLP training to a broader audience. He introduces the concept of NLP Plus, which incorporates additional practical applications to make the training even more valuable. His upcoming courses in Sacramento aim to equip participants with skills that can be applied in all areas of life, from personal relationships to professional settings.
Why Choose NLP?
Rick explains that NLP stands out from other therapeutic models due to its solution-focused approach. Unlike traditional talk therapy, which may dwell on problems, NLP emphasizes finding and implementing solutions. By modeling the best strategies from top practitioners, NLP offers a more efficient and effective path to personal transformation.

The Healing Power of Hypnotherapy: Exclusive Insights with Laurel Van Woerkom
Welcome back to the Uncensored Journey Podcast, where we delve into essential truths for personal transformation. In this episode, we speak with Laurel Van Woerkom, a seasoned hypnotherapist and wellbeing coach, who shares deep insights into the world of hypnotherapy.
The Essence of Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy, often misunderstood and misrepresented in popular media, is not about mind control but a therapeutic tool that leverages the hypnotic state—a natural state of focused attention and increased suggestibility. Laurel explains that everyday activities like meditation, yoga, and deep learning engage us in hypnotic states, helping us access and reprogram deep-seated subconscious beliefs.
The Hypnotic State: A Natural Learning Process
Laurel highlights that children up to the age of eight are often in a near-constant state of hypnosis, absorbing vast amounts of information from their environment. This state aids in learning critical life skills and societal functions. In therapy, hypnosis allows individuals to revisit these formative states to address and reprogram subconscious beliefs that may be hindering their adult lives.
Transformation Through Hypnotherapy
One of the most empowering aspects of hypnotherapy, according to Laurel, is its ability to facilitate significant personal transformation without the invasiveness or side effects associated with conventional medical treatments. It provides a safe and controlled environment where clients can explore their subconscious and effect change at a foundational level.
Addressing Misconceptions About Hypnosis
Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is not a state of unconsciousness. Clients remain fully aware and can communicate during sessions, which demystifies one of the major myths surrounding the practice. This level of control and awareness ensures that hypnotherapy is a cooperative process between the therapist and the client, emphasizing safety and consent.
The Therapeutic Potential in Everyday Life
Beyond addressing deep-seated fears or traumatic memories, hypnotherapy offers applications in everyday stress management, sleep improvement, and even pain management. By reprogramming how we respond to daily stressors, hypnotherapy helps clients develop healthier, more productive responses to challenges.
Past Life Regression and Beyond
A fascinating aspect of hypnotherapy explored in the episode is past life regression, a technique that allows individuals to access memories and experiences from past lives. Laurel shares her personal and professional experiences with past life regression, describing it as a journey that can provide profound insights and emotional release, aiding in the healing and understanding of current life issues.
Finding the Right Practitioner
Choosing the right hypnotherapist is crucial. Laurel advises potential clients to look for practitioners with comprehensive training and a personal approach tailored to individual needs. She warns against those offering quick fixes and emphasizes the importance of a trusting, professional relationship.
Conclusion
Today’s conversation with Laurel Van Comb sheds light on the misunderstood world of hypnotherapy, illustrating its legitimacy and efficacy as a transformative tool. For those intrigued by the potential of hypnotherapy to foster profound personal growth and healing, exploring this therapeutic option could be a step toward a more fulfilled and aware existence.

Hidden Costs of Convenience: Unmasking Nutritional Labels and Making Healthier Choices
Welcome back to The Uncensored Journey Podcast, where we explore truths crucial for transforming our inner and outer selves. In this episode, co-hosts Cyndee and Gabriela delve into the hidden costs of grocery store convenience, both financially and health-wise, and critically examine how misleading labels can impact our wellness.
Decoding Labels: The Gateway to Better Health
Labels on food products are more than just names; they determine the quality of the ingredients we consume. Gabriela highlights the importance of understanding labels to avoid ingesting harmful, highly processed substances. She cautions against additives like MSG, various syrups, and misleadingly named "natural flavors," which often disguise undesirable ingredients.
Cyndee supports this by sharing her shock at the ingredients list of a popular plant-based burger, contrasting it with the simplicity of whole foods like beef, which list just one ingredient. This comparison underscores the episode's theme: simplicity in ingredients is often synonymous with higher nutritional value.
The Cost of Convenience
The convenience offered by processed foods is not just a monetary expense but an investment in future health issues. The hosts discuss how misleading marketing, such as terms like "low fat" or "diet," often covers up the chemical additives that can lead to long-term health problems. Cyndee's anecdote about comparing the cost and ingredients of store-bought versus homemade mayonnaise illustrates how a little extra time spent in the kitchen can lead to both healthier and more cost-effective living.
Preparing and Understanding Your Food
Emphasizing self-sufficiency, Cyndee shares how she prepares and uses her own seasonings and food mixtures, highlighting the empowerment and satisfaction derived from knowing exactly what goes into her food. This practice ensures quality, saves money, and reduces environmental impact by avoiding unnecessary packaging and additives.
Implications for Long-Term Health
The discussion also covers the broader implications of dietary choices, such as the potential long-term health costs of consuming convenient but unhealthy foods. Gabriela points out how societal shifts towards instant gratification undermine our health and well-being, suggesting that investing time in meal preparation is an essential aspect of self-care.
Conclusion
This episode serves as a powerful reminder of the benefits of being attentive to food labels and making conscious dietary choices. As Cyndee and Gabriela underscore, understanding and taking control of what we consume can lead to improved health, reduced medical costs, and a more sustainable lifestyle.

Embracing the Goodness of Healthy Fats
Welcome to the latest entry of our health and wellness series, where we delve into the transformative power of healthy fats and oils. On a recent episode of Uncensored Journey, hosts Cyndee and Gabriela explored the often misunderstood role of fats in our diet and skincare. Here’s what we learned about incorporating these vital nutrients into our lives.
The Misconception of Fats as Dietary Villains
Gabriela kicked off the discussion by debunking the common myth that fats are inherently bad for health. Contrary to popular belief, fats play essential roles in the body, including energy provision, cellular structure support, vitamin absorption, hormone regulation, and brain function. This segment highlighted the importance of using discernment when it comes to dietary information, encouraging listeners to understand the functional benefits of fats beyond the outdated low-fat diet trends.
A Deep Dive into Healthy Fats
Cyndee shared her personal hierarchy of fats, which prioritizes animal fats like beef tallow, lard, and schmaltz, followed by plant-based options such as avocado, coconut, and olive oils. Each of these fats offers unique benefits, from high smoke points suitable for frying to enhancing flavor and nutrient absorption in various dishes.
Schmaltz, a traditional fat used in Jewish cooking, was discussed for its culinary and cultural significance. Cyndee and Gabriela also explored how animal fats are not just for cooking but can be integral to natural skincare routines, replacing chemical-laden products with simple, effective alternatives.
Homemade Goodness: Crafting Your Own Healthy Fats
The conversation turned practical as Cyndee explained how she renders and uses animal fats at home. She detailed the process of rendering tallow and the multiple uses for it, from cooking to skin care, emphasizing the self-sufficiency and satisfaction derived from creating these products oneself.
Moreover, Cyndee walked us through her method for making homemade butter, which is not only cost-effective but also a delightful way to ensure the freshness and quality of what you consume. Her enthusiasm for DIY approaches invites listeners to explore making their own natural products.
Castor Oil: A Multifunctional Marvel
Gabriela chimed in with her experiences using castor oil, praising its detoxifying properties and versatility. Whether used for eye care or as a liver compress, castor oil exemplifies the kind of natural remedy that aligns with the podcast's ethos of using what nature provides to foster health and wellness.
The Bigger Picture: Understanding Fats in Our Diet
The hosts concluded the episode by addressing broader nutritional misconceptions about fats, particularly the difference between good (HDL) and bad (LDL) cholesterol. They stressed the importance of choosing high-quality, unprocessed fats and the role these play in maintaining overall health, countering misinformation with personal insights and experiences.
This episode of Uncensored Journey not only demystified fats but also empowered listeners to make informed choices about incorporating healthy fats into their diets and skincare routines. Witnessing the techniques and frameworks in action, and seeing the powerful changes that occur—what gets released, processed, and the metamorphosis of my clients—leaves me breathless and filled with immense gratitude.
1. Breakthrough Session: Our journey begins with a vital step, where we address and release limiting beliefs and the burdens of negative emotions. This is more than just an exercise; it's an opportunity to clear out the old to make space for new possibilities. This phase is critical, as it sets the groundwork for everything that follows.
2. Creating a Purposeful Future: Here, we turn dreams into visions. Together, we craft your 'avatar'—the ideal version of yourself, equipped with clear aims and aspirations. This visualization isn't just about imagining success; it's about defining a purposeful direction that excites and motivates you.
3. Taking Purposeful Action: Dreams and visions take form through action. This stage is about transforming thoughts into tangible steps, bringing your envisioned future into reality, one purposeful action at a time.
4. Focusing on the Positive: Through every step, maintaining a positive outlook is crucial. This mindset isn’t about ignoring difficulties but embracing a perspective that values resilience and sees opportunities in challenges. It's about nurturing a positive environment where transformation can flourish.
The Responsibility for Change: True change is a collaborative effort. It’s a profound partnership where we work together—bringing light to the shadows, the hidden, and the unspoken parts of yourself. It’s about recognizing the dissonance, giving voice to the silent parts, feeling the buried emotions, and then releasing them. This process isn’t something I do to you but with you.
I am continually amazed by the incredible shift, release, and transformation that happens when we bring awareness to what was once concealed. This journey we embark on isn't just my professional calling; it's a path I choose with deep commitment and responsibility, both in my practice and in my own life.
Together, we navigate this transformative process, building a relationship based on trust and mutual growth. My role is to facilitate and guide, but the true change comes from the courage and actions of each client. This shared experience—this dance of energy and ideas—is why I continue this work, filled with gratitude for every moment and every breakthrough.

Picture yourself as the captain of a ship navigating through the vast oceans. The course you chart, the sails you adjust, and the storms you weather—each decision moves you forward. This principle, embodying the essence of steering your actions and reactions, provides a transformative blueprint for personal growth and fulfillment.
The Foundation of Cause and Effect
Imagine every decision you make as planting a seed. The ground it's sown in represents your current situation, and the seed itself, the potential within your choice. As time passes, these seeds grow into the experiences and situations you encounter. This realization empowers you to cultivate your garden with intention, choosing seeds that align with the fruits you wish to bear.
Embracing Responsibility for Our Lives
The transformation from perceiving ourselves as victims of circumstance to architects of our destiny is akin to a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. A metamorphosis begins with accepting full responsibility for our actions and their outcomes. Consider a time you blamed an external factor for a setback. Now, reimagine that scenario, seeing how a different choice might have led to a different outcome. This shift in perspective grants the clarity needed for more informed decisions.

The Power of Fasting: A Personal Journey
Dive into the transformative world of fasting with 'The Power of Fasting: A Personal Journey.' Over four years, I've navigated various fasting methods, from intermittent to 87-hour stretches, uncovering not just physical benefits but profound spiritual and emotional growth. This post shares the enlightening journey beyond weight loss, exploring fasting's role in autophagy, holistic recovery, and a deeper connection with nature. Join me as I reflect on the lessons learned and the powerful realization that every step is an integral part of our development.
Over the last four years, I've embarked on a fascinating exploration of fasting, experimenting with various types, from intermittent and dry fasting to long-term fasts lasting between 18 to 87 hours. This journey has been a profound discovery process, full of lessons and undeniable successes. Initially, my quest began with a focus on fat loss and optimizing my metabolism. However, as time progressed, my intentions transformed, broadening to include fasting for autophagy—targeting cell renewal and giving my various bodies (Spiritual, Mental, Emotional, and Physical), alongside my digestive system, the necessary break needed to rest, recover, and reset.
Today, I've completed an 87-hour fast and feel so grateful for experiencing it. Throughout these years, I've navigated through the myriad effects of fasting, including headaches, fatigue, and moments of feeling unwell. This journey of trial and error, coupled with educating myself on how to tailor fasting to my unique needs as a woman, considering my cycle, hormones, and DNA makeup, has been incredibly enlightening. I've optimized my experience with each fast I embarked on.
In this process, I've welcomed a new level of support and integration, harnessing my connection with Spirit, my Higher Self, and the power of my subconscious mind. Incredibly, during the most extended fast I've undertaken this time, my experience was smooth, seamless, and profoundly empowering.
An extraordinary part of my recent fasting journey was the connection with nature. Toward the end of my fast, I had the privilege of connecting with three young elks who visited me. We shared a moment of beautiful connection, during which I sent them healing energy. I channeled source energy or Keawe for those familiar with Huna for their healing. An eagle also graced me with its presence, serving as a powerful affirmation that I am exactly where I need to be, perfectly aligned with my development and path. This encounter filled me with immense gratitude for all my teachers, human, animal, and sacred plants, fostering a deep love and connection with the world around me.
Reflecting on the tangible outcomes of this 87-hour fast reveals a tapestry of achievements that have profoundly impacted my holistic well-being:
Enhanced Clarity and Focus: Achieved optimized cognition through improved brain function, resulting from reduced mental fog and heightened mental alertness, allowing for deeper concentration and more effective decision-making.
Physical Detoxification: My body efficiently purged toxins, improving energy levels and vitality. This process supported the elimination of cellular waste, contributing to a cleaner internal environment and enhancing overall physical well-being.
Metabolic Improvement: The fast optimized fat loss and metabolic efficiency.
Autophagy Activation: Promoted cellular cleanup and renewal, improving cellular function and contributing to longevity, disease prevention, enhanced muscle performance, improved immune response, better insulin sensitivity, reduced inflammation, support in weight management, and cardiovascular health.
Ketosis: Efficiently burned fat for fuel, boosting fat loss and energy levels. Ketosis is a metabolic state characterized by elevated levels of ketone bodies, utilizing fat as a primary energy source.
Strengthened Willpower and Discipline: Exercised my resolve and self-discipline muscle.
Harmony with Nature & Deepened Spiritual Connection: My encounters with wildlife and the universe deepened my connection, highlighting a harmonious relationship with nature and a strengthened spiritual bond.
Emotional Serenity: The journey led to a newfound emotional peace, anchoring me in a more stable and serene emotional state.
I share this experience to emphasize that every journey we embark on, whether related to fasting, rebirth and transformation, physical health, career, relationships, or any other path, carries a significant purpose. Each step we take is part of a larger journey unfolding for us, not to us. This realization inspires us to embrace our experiences with gratitude and openness, understanding that they are integral to our growth and development.
As I reflect on my fasting journey and its broader implications, I'm reminded of the beauty of our paths and the lessons they hold. It's a powerful reminder that our journeys, with their unique challenges and successes, are not just about the destinations but the profound insights and transformations we undergo along the way.
Evolving Self: Lessons from a Transformational Journey
As a transformational guide, I've dedicated my life to holistic healing and personal growth. In 2023, my journey took a significant leap forward, deeply influenced by my experiences with Mother Ayahuasca and the guidance of my transformational guide.
Ayahuasca: A Doorway to Self-Discovery
My transformative journey with Mother Ayahuasca, beginning in a San Diego garage, was more than a ceremony; it was a rebirth. This powerful plant medicine opened my eyes to the depths of my soul, helping me release years of suppressed emotions and limiting beliefs.
The Role of a Transformational Guide
A transformational guide does more than coach; they walk alongside you on your path, offering insights, challenging perceptions, and encouraging profound shifts in your life. This partnership has been essential in integrating my Ayahuasca experiences into tangible life changes.
Pre-requisites for Lasting Change
True transformation requires more than desire; it demands readiness, openness, and a willingness to confront the unknown. These pre-requisites set the stage for profound and lifelong change. They involve embracing vulnerability, challenging long-held beliefs, and stepping into a continual learning and growth space. In my journey, acknowledging these pre-requisites has been pivotal in ensuring that the changes I've experienced are not just momentary but part of a continuous evolution towards my highest self.
Personal Development
This year, I embraced a deeper level of self-acceptance and compassion. I've let go of long-held anger and frustration, finding a newfound congruence in expressing myself. My mindset is now neutral and curious, which marks my approach to others' behaviors.
Physical Health
Whether traveling or home, I maintained a consistent workout regimen and healthy eating habits. This year has been about loving and respecting my physical body more than ever.
Career
I achieved several professional milestones, including NLP, MER, and Hypnosis certifications, and enrolled in an Integrative NLP Coaching Program. I also launched a Podcast Series with my friend Cyndee Goldstein, 'Uncensored Journey,' sharing weekly insights and experiences.
Finance
I've established a financial plan that supports my future business endeavors, laying a foundation for sustained success.
Relationships & Family
My journey included working through limiting beliefs and negative emotions surrounding my family relationships. The bond with my mom has grown even stronger, and I've learned to effectively set boundaries with friends and loved ones.
Spirituality
This year, I completed Level 1 Huna, embraced daily chanting, and deepened my meditation practice. My commitment to my spiritual path is stronger than ever, and I am grateful for the wisdom I gained.
Your Transformation Awaits
As your transformational guide, I invite you to join me on this journey of self-discovery and growth. Embrace life's transformative experiences, and step into your most empowered self.
Chakras & why they matter
Chakras are energy points in and around our physical and energetic bodies. Most people that write and talk about chakras usually focus on the ones along your spinal column, the core 7: the crown, third eye, throat, heart, solar plexus, sacral and root chakras.
Chakras are energy points in and around our physical and energetic bodies. Most people that write and talk about chakras usually focus on the ones along your spinal column, the core 7: the crown, third eye, throat, heart, solar plexus, sacral and root chakras.
There are a few other significant chakras that are not brought up as often. After years of learning about chakras, their functions and connections to each other, there are a few more chakras that I believe are worth mentioning: Stellar Gateway chakra, Soul Star chakra, thymus or upper heart chakra and the Earth Star chakra.
The Stellar Gateway, Soul Star, and Earth Star chakras are called transpersonal chakras and are located outside of the physical body. They connect the physical body and its respective chakras with the Higher Self, collective consciousness, other beings and high frequency energy.
The Stellar Gateway chakra is lined up with your Soul Star chakra and resides 6 inches above it. The stellar gateway chakra’s purpose is to filter, receive, balance and integrate the energy you receive from the stars, planets and other dimensions.
Signs that the Stellar Gateway chakra is out of balance: egomania, lack of discernment, repeating the same negative life patterns, involuntary out of body experiences, physical objects appearing and disappearing, uncontrolled inner visions that disrupt the daily routine.
Ways to help align the Stellar Gateway chakra: meditation, Kundalini yoga, connect with energy healers for support.
Supporting Crystals: Selenite, Calcite
Mantra: I am open and willing to receive.
The Soul Star chakra is located 3 to 6 inches from the crown chakra and its main role is to integrate the physical body with the spiritual bodies. Through it you can connect to your higher self, past lives by accessing the Akashic records and the collective consciousness.
Signs that the Soul Star chakra is out of balance: disconnection from our feelings, feeling numb, feelings of doubt, lack of authenticity, making decisions out of fear.
Ways to help align the Soul Star crown chakra: meditate, claim and own your life, be authentic.
Supporting Crystals: Selenite, Indigo Kyanite, Phenacite.
Mantras: I commit to life. My life is my creation. I claim my life and I accept full responsibility over it.
The Crown chakra is our highest physical chakra and is the bridge to Source or Divinity. It is the chakra of meditation and spirituality. Physically, it influences the central nervous system, muscular system and skin.
Signs that the crown chakra is out of balance: inflexible thoughts and behavior, disconnection from others, despair, disheartenment, inability to surrender, fear to take action.
Ways to help align the crown chakra: meditate often, practice gratitude for the blessings in your life, surrender a situation to Source/ the Divine and trust it will be resolved.
Supporting Crystals: Amethyst, Clear Quartz, Labradorite, Selenite, Sugilite.
Mantras: I am connected. I see the light in everyone. I honor all beings. I am unconditional love. I live in the present moment. I am open to divine guidance. My life moves with grace.
The Third-Eye chakra is located between the eyebrows and is the center of our intuition, and wisdom, and it helps us think and make decisions. When this chakra is aligned, we experience mental clarity, can focus easily, see things for what they are, we exercise discernment, we question our history, social programming and what is truly appropriate for our wellbeing and self growth.
Signs that the third eye chakra is out of balance: narcissist behavior, ego driven, mistrustful, external focus, inability to be compassionate, stubbornness, lack of focus, inability to retain information, fear of the unknown, procrastination, indecisiveness.
Ways to help align the third eye chakra: yoga, meditation, energy healing work, sound therapy, acupressure.
Supporting Crystals: Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli, Moldavite, Purple Fluorite, Black Obsidian.
Mantras: I am connected to my higher power and to the wisdom of the Universe. Every situation is an opportunity to grow. I am able to see and act in alignment with my divine purpose. I am wise, intuitive, and connected to my Higher Self. I trust my intuition and act according to its guidance.
The Throat chakra is located at the center of the neck, at the level of the throat. The throat chakra’s main function is self-expression both internally and externally. This includes expression of feelings, beliefs, intentions, thoughts and aspirations.
Signs that the throat chakra is out of balance: inability to listen to others, to be discreet and keep secrets, inability to express yourself, suppressing feelings, beliefs and opinions in order to avoid judgement, fear of silence, excessive talking, constant complaining, needing to be right all the time, depression, anxiety, aggression, poor self-esteem.
Ways to help align the throat chakra: meditate on the color blue, hydrate (drink water), write, journal, sing, dance, express yourself in private or with your close friends until you feel comfortable to share it with the world.
Supporting Crystals: Lapis Lazuli, Amazonite, Blue Kyanite, Blue Apatite.
Mantras: I express my feelings easily. I speak my truth freely and easily. I live my truth, I express my truth, I am the truth.
The Thymus chakra, also known as the higher heart chakra, is located between the throat chakra and the heart chakra. This chakra is associated with the thymus gland and it connects the emotions of unconditional love, compassion, truth and forgiveness with your throat chakra allowing you to speak from the heart.
The thymus gland is connected to the immune system and contains within it the patterning for your DNA, and your karmic design for this lifetime, including past lives.
Your thymus is just as important for your physical health as it is for your spiritual health, since it plays an important role with your immune system. The thymus is a lymphoid gland which plays an essential role in the production of T-cells, which are some of your best protectors in the fight against viruses.
Just in case you need more incentives to work with this chakra, here are a few more reasons why you want this chakra to be aligned and happy:
Strong immune system.
It will help reduce high blood pressure, and heal tumors.
Lowers anxiety and irritability, which leads to a more restful sleep.
Shorter recovery from sickness.
Signs that the thymus chakra is out of balance: getting sick often, feeling tired and weighted down no matter how much rest we get, hopelessness, apathy.
Ways to help activate the thymus chakra: Reiki, sound therapy, meditation, yoga, qi gong, tai chi.
Supporting Crystals: Green Calcite, Turquoise, Selenite, Clear quartz.
Mantras: I accept all aspects of myself. I accept others the way they are. I forgive easily. I am compassionate towards myself and others.
The heart chakra is located 3 inches below the thymus chakra and is responsible for processing and extending acceptance, forgiveness, compassion, empathy, grief. The heart chakra’s focus is to help us love ourselves and others, transform, change, and integrate insights.
Signs that the heart chakra is out of balance: negativity towards others, feelings of unworthiness of love, codependency, desperation, greed, lack of empathy, inability to trust oneself or others, deep insecurity and fear, holding grudges and not being able to let go, excessive isolation, jealousy, being overly defensive, always rescuing others or being the victim, trying to please at all costs.
Ways to help balance the heart chakra: practice self-care, self-compassion and acceptance, participate in activities that feed your heart, focus on receiving if you generally give all the time, focus on giving if you generally receive all the time, express gratitude.
Supporting Crystals: Rose quartz, Rhodochrosite, Green Jade, Green Aventurine, Malachite
Mantras: I accept myself in every way. I forgive myself. I love myself unconditionally.
The Solar Plexus chakra is located 3 inches or so below the heart chakra and is responsible for self-esteem, willpower and sense of self. It is the core of power and balance both from a physical and spiritual perspective.
Signs that the Solar plexus chakra is out of balance: addiction, codependency, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, controlling, overindulgence, excessive laziness, insecurity, lack of focus.
Ways to help balance the Solar plexus chakra: meditation, yoga, sunbathing, spending time in nature, express your feelings through movement (exercise, dance, cry, write, draw), stop seeing yourself as the victim,
Supporting Crystals: Orange calcite, Yellow Tiger’s eye, Agate, Pyrite, Citrine, Amber
Mantras: I respect and honor myself. I can succeed in anything I focus on. I respect and honor myself. I stand up for myself. I am responsible for my life. I am whole.

Mantras: I am creative. I am comfortable with my body. It is safe to express my sexuality. It is my Divine right to be joyful and find pleasure.
The Root chakra is located at the base of your spine and it is associated with your basic needs ( food, sex, shelter and survival), security, grounding, and how you relate to others. When your Root chakra is balanced you feel safe, stable and able to take on anything. Physically it oversees the bladder, kidneys, lower spine and back. From a physiological aspect it rules the survival instincts, like “fight or flight”.
Signs that the Root chakra is out of balance: overeating, hoarding goods and money, insecurity, anxiety, detachment, poor decision making, feeling alone, lack of focus, restlessness
Ways to help balance the Root chakra: practice mindful movement (take walks in nature, dance, practice yoga, while you shower focus on connecting with the Earth),

The Earth Star chakra is located 12 inches below your feet, outside of your physical body. Its main function is to ground the entire chakra system and allow for a deeper connection with Mother Gaia and universal energies. The Earth Star chakra is our direct line to Mother Gaia (Earth) and our soul life purpose. When balanced, the Earth Star chakra helps us stay present during our daily routine, it gives us a sense of being connected to something greater than ourselves, of truly being loved and welcomed on Earth.
Signs that the Earth Star chakra is out of balance: anxiety, feeling lost, instability in life, lack of spirituality, acute fear of the unknown, depression, loss of purpose, poverty mentality, feeling lonely, feeling homesick, feeling disconnected, overactive mind.

Mantras: I am grounded and stable. I release all lower frequency beliefs and patterns from all timelines into Mother Gaia. I am safe, grounded, loved and connected with Mother Gaia.
I would like to mention the Gaia Gateway which is located 6 to 12 inches below the Star Earth Chakra. It is the energy portal through which we communicate our beliefs, our soul knowing and our awareness of our purpose into the core, or center of the earth. The core of the earth serves as a mirror, what we project and focus on, it reflects back our intentions.
I intend to post in depth articles on each chakra, including the colors, foods and physical symptoms they are each associated with. I did not feel like the colors were important to mention above, since each individual experiences the color of each chakra differently. As a point of reference, these are predominantly experienced:
Stellar Gateway Chakra: silver or white
Soul Star Chakra: gold or white
Crown Chakra: violet or white
Third-eye Chakra: purple
Throat Chakra: sky blue or deep blue
Thymus Chakra: pink-gold
Heart Chakra: green
Solar plexus Chakra: yellow
Sacral Chakra: orange
Root Chakra: red
Earth Star Chakra: magenta
Happy healing! Love, accept, forgive, be compassionate with yourself, have courage to be your authentic self and see your world transform, and the world around you. You are the creator of your universe and together we can co-create a beautiful, healthy and loving world.
Call back your soul energy
When your soul energy is scattered and not in your energy field you will feel tired, drained, low energy and lethargic. If your body is hydrated, fed and rested, chances are your soul energy is scattered.
During this time of global division, COVID-19, and everything else it is especially important that you have all your soul energy with you as much as possible. What do I mean by that? Every interaction known or unknown to us is an exchange of energy. I am not just talking about co-workers, family, and grocery store interactions.
I am also talking about stranger interactions where someone loves what you are wearing or loves your smile and consciously/ subconsciously takes some of your soul energy.
If you spend a lot of time driving, working or watching TV, your energy is also transferred to your car, your laptop or TV. Don’t forget about energy vampires that absorb your energy intentionally or unintentionally (if they are not aware themselves that they are doing it!)
When your soul energy is scattered and not in your energy field you will feel tired, drained, low energy and lethargic. If your body is hydrated, fed and rested, chances are your soul energy is scattered.
How do you call back your soul energy?
Find a room where you will not be disturbed or interrupted, put your phone on silent and close your laptop. You can lay down or sit up in lotus pose.
Close your eyes and take 3 long deep breaths. Visualize a beautiful golden sphere 9 feet on top of your head and on top of the sphere visualize the world’s strongest magnet.
Call on all your soul energy and use the magnet to pull it out from work, loved ones, strangers, your car, etc. and put it in the golden sphere. As more and more of your energy arrives in the sphere, the sphere becomes bigger and bigger. Continue doing this for 2-3 minutes while maintaining deep breathing.
Once you feel like all your soul energy is captured in the golden sphere, visualize your soul energy from the sphere slowly flowing into your Star chakra, then your crown chakra, then your throat chakra and so on until it reaches your Earth chakra.
Once each of your chakras feel replenished and recharged, extend the flow of your soul energy into your aura. This should take approximately 5 to 10 minutes, you will know when you are ready to close this visualization.
Once you feel ready to close this visualization, thank the magnet and the golden sphere for their assistance and send them back to Source.
Start moving your toes and hands, stretch if you feel like it, take 3 long deep breaths and go back to your day.
If you have time I highly recommend protecting your energy. You can follow the guided mediation here or read my post on how to protect your energy.
Practice this visualization whenever you feel low on energy or tired.
Note on the Golden Sphere: the Golden Sphere has two functions: to store your energy while it’s being pulled and also to transmute your soul energy so that when it flows back into your chakras and aura it is vibrating unconditional love at the highest frequency.
Take your meditation deeper through real food
Take your meditation deeper through real food
As a civilization we are becoming more and more detached from what we put into our bodies. With the convenience of food availability 24/7 we tend to eat whatever is in reach, with little regard for its nutritional content or lack thereof. We have access to unlimited “food like” products yet our bodies are starving because they are nutrient depleted. Nutrient depletion leads to system imbalances, which in some extreme cases can lead to death. What this imbalance certainly leads to is ultimately disease and in the short term hunger (never being full), weight gain and a clogged system.
Let’s not forget that on top of the lack of highly nutritious foods some of us are also taking Pharma medications that also contribute to nutrient depletion and worse.
You are probably wondering what does that have to do with my blog title? Your brain requires a lot of nutrients, healthy fats, and overall a healthy diet to function optimally. In order to be able to mediate and advance in your spiritual journey, your temple, your body needs to be able to support that kind of advancement. Think of having the right nutrition as building the foundation blocks for your spirituality.
High quality nutrient food like dark leafy greens, healthy fats like avocados, coconut fat, nuts, whole grains, legumes, have a higher vibration than factory meat, boxed pastas, premade frozen meals, artificial sugar foods. I believe that everything holds a vibration because everything is energy. Which one do you think has a higher vibration: whole food or a box of cookies?
I am aware that I predominately advocate for a plant based diet, but everyone’s body is different. Your ancestors’ history is different, where you grew up and what kind of diet you had is essential for some individuals on a biological level. So if you are one of those people, it’s ok to eat meat once in a while. Try to go from eating meat everyday to eating meat every other day and so on. Make sure the meat is organic and of the highest quality. Ideally you would know the farm your meat comes from, the conditions the animals live in and also how they are slaughtered.
I am not writing these blog posts to judge anyone. What works for me, may not work for you and vice versa and that is ok. The point of these blog entries is to bring in some new ideas, to maybe inspire you to try something new and elevate your well-being in the process.
Back to meditation and how to help your body support it. The first thing individuals that are new to meditation say is that it is challenging for them to focus or to sit still for long periods of time. Chances are that those individuals are consuming a lot of “food like” products, food that their bodies do not accept, which brings on a state of physiological stress that keeps the body confined to primal characteristics of the physical body and removes the chance and or ability to be still and experience meditation.
Our nervous system needs critical nutrients to run at its full capacity in order to remain balanced and centered. Otherwise we get stuck in the primal, reactive way of being and are unable to advance to higher levels of enlightenment.
The neocortex is where we go when we meditate. This is where we experience unconditional love, visualize our future, our goals, and connect with the collective consciousness. This is also where you will find the pineal gland or the famous Third Eye. Due to a suboptimal diet and environmental pollutants, the pineal gland rarely functions at its best and as a result we operate from the primal parts of the brain.
The primal parts of the brain consist of the reptilian brain and the limbic brain. The reptilian brain or the hind brain is responsible for telling you if you are hungry or scared and its only concern is to keep you alive. It regulates our body temperature, breathing, heart rate and fight/flight response. If this part of the brain is in the driving seat, we tend to gravitate towards past experiences that we associate with safety and survival, we avoid change and become self-absorbed.
The limbic brain is where instinct and emotion meet. Also a primal part of the brain, the limbic brain analyses and processes fear, feeding, fighting and sex.
The limbic brain becomes more active the more processed grains and sugar we consume. This part of the brain is where the obsession with sex, food, alcohol, TV aka programming, aggressive behaviors and emotional issues arise.
Now that we better understand our operating systems, how do we get to experience deep meditative states? We turn to the wisdom of our ancestors and remember what it means to connect with Source/ God/ The Higher Power before modern times.
Our ancestors considered food to be sacred and a gift from Mother Gaia, sacred energy if you will to help nourish our mind, body and soul. If we disregard this philosophy and continue to eat mindlessly we will have a hard time bridging the space between the limbic brain and the neocortex and we will be stuck living in lower levels of consciousness.
The neocortex needs Omega 3 fats found in seaweed, spirulina, flax seeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds, walnuts and so on, to operate at its best. The neocortex also needs healthy fats that can be assimilated by consuming coconut oil, avocados, sunflower seeds/ oil, nuts and cacao nibs.
Since the primary function of the neocortex is to serve as the seat of consciousness, motor commands, sensory perception, conscious thought, and spatial reasoning, stress is not something that it handles well. Like it was mentioned earlier, that is the job of the limbic brain. The only issue with that is that the limbic brain is not designed to handle all the modern day attention grabbing items that are constantly thrown at us when we open our phone, laptop, TV and so on. Thus the limbic brain cannot distinguish between being in imminent danger and the pint of ice cream that contains 100g of processed sugar.
In conclusion, if we give the neocortex the nutrients it requires and avoid nutritional stressors, the neocortex can keep the limbic brain in check and allow us to have deep meditative experiences in a much easier fashion.
If you want to experiment with your nutrition try the following for 10 days:
Eat whole food only.
Eat Omega 3 rich foods, like: seaweed, spirulina, flax seeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds, walnuts.
Eat healthy fats like coconut oil, avocados, sunflower seeds/ oil, nuts and cacao nibs.
Magnesium rich foods like green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, raw cacao etc. Magnesium is absolutely essential for the nervous system.
Drink high quality water and lots of it. I highly recommend a water filter that filters out chlorine and fluoride. I’ve been using a ProPur filter for years and I couldn’t be happier.
Limit stimulants like caffeine and alcohol intake. Substitute a cup of coffee with green tea.
Limit dairy products.
Avoid synthetic foods such as additives, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, margarines, refined sugar and carbohydrates (white breads and pastas etc.) that are nothing more than empty calories, over-consumption of factory farmed animals and processed meats.
Fast or practice intermittent fasting.
Meditate often.
As I mentioned before, I am not writing these blog posts to judge anyone. What works for me, may not work for you and vice versa and that is ok. The point of these blog entries is to bring in some new ideas, remind you of something you forgot, and maybe to inspire you to try something new and elevate your well-being in the process. Happy experimenting!
Fasting: Letting your body heal
Fasting: Letting your body heal
What do we know about fasting?
Fasting is a spiritual practice as old as time. Literally every main religion and every ascended master that is world known mentioned fasting in one way or another. I will not deep dive into describing how and when they were mentioned, you can just Google that if you are curious. There are so many sources and texts out there on the subject.
I want to focus on my experience with it, the benefits which are both physical and spiritual, and current trends.
But first, let’s start with the culture of eating and gathering around food. Nowadays, food is a way for people to gather and spend time together. Our society has become obsessed with what makes us healthy and keeps our weight in check. It’s an addiction, a codependency. For the longest time, this was mainly a women’s issue but as the food quality decreased and opinions of doctors, media and other well respected health gurus diverged, this is now a source of focus for both men and women. As technology makes everything more and more accessible by grocery deliveries, “healthy” fast food and Keto diets, etc. we are “hunting” less and less for our food, we sit more, and our energy becomes stagnant which leads to disease. We are eating often and we are eating calorie dense foods vs nutrient dense foods. What does that do to our bodies and more importantly to our etheric bodies? This cycle and behavior is slowing down our metabolism, making all bodies, physical and etheric, perform sub-optimal.
I started getting into intermittent fasting late last year, I bought an amazing book that I absolutely love, but that I did not read until 4 months ago. I browsed it artificially and said to myself “This is easy and I know what I need to do”. I did 16/8 which means I fasted for 16 hours, ate during an 8 hour period. It wasn’t hard to do and I practiced it up until June of this year and then I was guided to read the book, The Complete Guide to Fasting: Heal Your Body Through Intermittent, Alternate-Day, and Extended Fasting by Dr. Jason Fung. I also read through all the mainstream religions and their take on fasting.
I was born Greek Eastern Orthodox, though I no longer associate with this religion and its practices. I do remember as a child, before Easter, my family and I would fast for 40 days, and we would only eat plant based food. In the Muslim religion, there is the 40 day fast before Ramadan, no eating until sundown for 40 days, and so on.
Ever since I bought this book, I really wanted to do a 48 hour fast. I was intrigued and at the same time scared. I’ve heard the preconceived notions that fasting makes you cranky, lightheaded and all around puts you in a bad mood. I’ve also heard people saying “That’s so hard. I couldn’t do it.” and I believed them. I took those words and made them my own. It took me 8 months to build up the courage to do a 48 hour fast. I ended up going for 72 hours the first time I did and I wasn’t cranky, foggy or dizzy. I felt energized, focused and light. Of course I’ve experienced some headaches, mild dizziness and the temptation to break my fast, and I believe the latter had more to do with my programming in relation to fasting than anything else. If I bothered to read the book cover to cover, I would have come across the section that talks about what happens to one’s sodium levels in the body. By day 2 your electrolytes are off balance hence the dizzy spells since you are not ingesting any sodium. There is a way around it and it’s such an easy fix, drink a couple of low sugar electrolytes drinks throughout the rest of the fast. The headaches and dizziness improved and so did my overall well-being. I continued my workouts and meditation but on the 3rd day I took it easy.
The second time I did the 72 hour fast it was easier, so just like anything else practice makes the master.
This is what happens by the second day of fasting: your body begins a deep detox process in which it gets rid of sick and old cells in your body, this is called autophagy. Autophagy is the body's way of cleaning out damaged cells, in order to regenerate newer and healthier cells. Depending on your overall health, the symptoms of lethargy, headaches, etc. may be more severe but in my case they were short lived. I’ve been eating a whole food plant based diet for years so my system was in pretty good shape.
My favorite part about doing the 72 hour fast is that my days have more freedom. I am not thinking about what I will eat next, do I have to cook, go shopping or do dishes. This gives me more time to focus on meditation, reading and listening to my body more closely, going within on a deeper level.
Depending on what your diet is like you can spend up to 30% of your energy digesting the food you eat. During fasting you can use that 30% on creative projects, getting stuff done faster and last but not least give your body a break from digestion and filtering the substances you put in your body. You are giving your body time to regenerate and heal. If you have preexisting conditions, always check with your doctor before attempting to do an extended fast.
If you are generally healthy and have no preexisting conditions here are some tips on how to try a 48-72 hour fast:
Eat your last meal at 5pm and begin your fast.
Drink water, tea, coffee (if your goal is to give your gut a break, take the coffee out of the equation) with no sugar or milk.
After day 1, drink 1 to 2 electrolytes drinks (make sure they are low in sugar) I recommend Nuun hydration.
If you absolutely feel like you need to eat something because your headaches are not going away, soak 1 tablespoon of chia seeds in a glass of water for 15 minutes and drink it.
Try and take a break from your supplements and medications if it’s safe. The goal here is to give your body a break from processing so that it can focus on the cleaning and regeneration process.
Get plenty of sleep, go to bed early and read a book or meditate.
If you want to workout make sure you stay hydrated. Getting dizzy is a sign of dehydration and not a lack of fuel in your system.
Don’t tell your friends and family you are fasting. Some people mean well, but you do not need people to tell you “That’s going to be so hard. I couldn’t do it”
I now do a 72 hour fast every month and continue doing the 16/8 2 to 3 times a week. My goal is to do a 5 day fast by the end of the year.
Remember, our ancestors were fasting for longer periods of times, food was not as easily available as it is today so fasting was as normal as getting coffee from Starbucks. In a way I think our ancestors were much better off, they ate whole food full of nutrients, they hunted for their food (which means they exercised on a regular basis) and their food was fresh and not pumped up with drugs and preservatives to keep it edible. If they could do it, so can you!
Give your body a break so it can heal on its own.
